Placing CFOs? How search firms use the list

Who it is for

Built for

  • Owners and partners of fractional CFO firms who win clients through bankers, attorneys and audit partners, and want a reason to call this week.
  • Small executive search firms that place CFOs and other finance leaders (see the section for search firms below).

Pick another tool for

  • Investors who want every funding round in the US, with investor and round history. Crunchbase fits that better.
  • Anyone who needs alerts within minutes, or email addresses. Fundz or Apollo fit that better.

  • newlyraised: $249 a month per metro covers everyone at your firm. The account owner invites colleagues by email from Team, at no extra charge, and everyone sees the same list. Where we are weaker

  • Weekly, not within minutes. Fundz says new Form Ds reach its feed a median of about 6 minutes after the SEC accepts them. fundz.net/pricing (opens in a new tab) ·
  • SBA data is 1 to 4 months old. SBA publishes its loan file once a quarter, about a month after the quarter ends. The current file is as of Sep 30, 2026 and was published Oct 30, 2026. The SBA part of each weekly list stays the same until SBA publishes its next file (at the same pace, around the end of January 2027). The Form Ds are new each week.
  • No email addresses. Fundz and Apollo include contacts. We give the names and roles a Form D lists and the company phone as filed. SBA publishes no people.
  • We don't check company websites yet. "Lists no finance title" means the filings list none. The company may still have a CFO the filings don't name.
  • Small numbers. New Form Ds in Nov 2–6, 2026: Houston 6, Austin 4, Dallas-Fort Worth 2, Denver 1. A metro with fewer than 3 in a week gets its last 4 weeks instead (Oct 13–Nov 6, 2026: Dallas-Fort Worth 4, Denver 8). Every list also carries the metro's $1M+ SBA loans approved Jul–Sep 2026: Dallas-Fort Worth 136, Houston 105, Denver 60, Austin 24.
  • Two kinds of record only. No press-announced rounds, executive moves or hiring signals, and no company profiles beyond what the filing says.
  • We cost more. At list price ($249 a month) we cost more than every Fundz plan and Crunchbase Pro ($49–$149 a month). The founding price ($129 a month, first 10 firms) is below Fundz Strategic billed quarterly ($149 a month) and Crunchbase Business billed annually (from $199 a month). Sales Navigator and Apollo charge per person; we charge per metro. For scale: fractional CFO retainers run $3,000 to $12,000 a month, per CentsIQ. A year of one metro at list price ($2,988) costs less than one month at the low end. fundz.net/pricing (opens in a new tab) · crunchbase.com/buy/select-product (opens in a new tab) · CentsIQ: fractional CFO question log (opens in a new tab) ·

What we add

Checked against the other tools' own pages on the dates in the table.

  • $1M+ SBA loans next to the Form Ds. Your list also carries the SBA 7(a) and 504 loans of $1M+ approved in your metro in the latest quarter SBA has published, each with its lender: a banker you can call. In Houston, Jul–Sep 2026: 105 loans, 30 of them for a change of ownership (a business bought). Fundz's pricing page does not mention SBA loans. fundz.net/pricing (opens in a new tab) ·
  • A finance-title check across every Form D the company has filed. We drop a company when its new filing, or any earlier Form D it filed (SEC records back to 2009), lists a CFO, treasurer, controller or other finance title. What is left lists no finance title. Fundz's pricing page and the two Apify Form D pages do not mention such a check. fundz.net/pricing (opens in a new tab) ·
  • Each line says only what its record says. Form D amounts are "sold so far", a running total that can predate the filing. SBA loans are "approved", which is not the same as paid out. Every item links to its SEC filing, or to SBA's loan dataset with the borrower's row named.
  • Most of the noise is removed for you. In Oct 13–Nov 6, 2026 the SEC listed 5,034 Form Ds. 3,254 were investment funds. We kept 392 new filings from operating companies with no finance title listed, across all metros.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to Crunchbase for finding newly funded companies?

For Form D filings, yes: SEC EDGAR is free, and it is the record we use. So is the SBA's 7(a) and 504 loan file. You do the filtering yourself: in Nov 2–6, 2026 the SEC listed 1,308 Form Ds, and 814 were investment funds. Crunchbase also has a free account with usage limits, per a third-party reading of its pricing page on Oct 13, 2026. Our trial is 14 days, no card.

How is newlyraised different from Fundz?

Fundz covers more signals (funding, executive moves, hiring, open officer seats) across the US, with a territory filter, and says new Form Ds reach its feed in about 6 minutes. Per fundz.net/pricing (read Nov 6, 2026), its plans start at $49 a month (billed annually). We send one weekly list per metro, add $1M+ SBA loan approvals, and drop companies whose Form Ds, new or earlier, name a finance officer. Fundz's pricing page mentions neither.

How is it different from Crunchbase?

Crunchbase is a company and funding-round database. Its own plan page (read Nov 7, 2026) lists Pro, for one person, at $99 a month (billed monthly), or $49 a month (billed annually, first year), and Business, for teams of 2 or more, from $199 a month billed annually. We have not tested Crunchbase for SBA loans or a finance-title check. We send a weekly list for one metro, built only from SEC and SBA records.

Can my whole team use one subscription?

Yes. The price is per metro, not per person: the account owner invites colleagues by email from Team, at no extra charge, and everyone sees the same list. Sales Navigator is priced per license and Apollo per seat, by their own pricing pages.

Does it get into our CRM?

Through a file. Export the list as CSV (one row per filing or loan, with address, amounts, lender, people and roles, phone as filed and the source link) and load it with your CRM's own import. There is no direct CRM connection. Export works during the trial and locks if it ends unpaid; the list stays readable.

How many new companies a week?

New Form Ds in Nov 2–6, 2026: Houston 6, Austin 4, Dallas-Fort Worth 2, Denver 1. Over Oct 13–Nov 6, 2026: Houston 12, Austin 13, Dallas-Fort Worth 4, Denver 8. A metro with fewer than 3 in a week gets its last 4 weeks of Form Ds instead. $1M+ SBA loans approved Jul–Sep 2026: Dallas-Fort Worth 136, Houston 105, Denver 60, Austin 24. SBA loans arrive once a quarter. The SBA part of each weekly list stays the same until SBA publishes its next file (at the same pace, around the end of January 2027).

Do I get email addresses?

No. Form D items name the officers and directors the filing lists, with their roles, and the company phone as filed. SBA items name the business, its address and its lender; SBA publishes no people. We don't use LinkedIn.

How fresh is the list?

Form D: each weekly list covers the past week of SEC EDGAR daily indexes (this build: Nov 2–6, 2026). SBA: published once a quarter; the current file is as of Sep 30, 2026 and was published Oct 30, 2026.

Can executive search firms use it?

Yes. It is the same list at the same price, $249 a month per metro. Use the Form D items: each names the company's officers and directors and lists no finance title. SBA items name no people. The list is about companies, not candidates, so don't use it to screen people.

What does it cost?

$249 a month per metro. Founding firms: $129 a month, locked for 12 months (first 10 firms). 14-day free trial, no card. +$99 a month for each extra metro.
