Where the data comes from
Every item in your list comes from a government record. Form D items link to the SEC filing. SBA items name the SBA file and the row, because SBA publishes no page per loan. Census files place each one in a metro. For each source: how fresh it is, what it proves, and what it does not.

First sale , filed : the amount sold is a running total since the first sale, not this week's sales.
What SEC Form D proves
- The company filed a notice of an exempt offering with the SEC on that date. SEC: Filing a Form D notice (opens in a new tab)
- The amount it is offering, and the amount sold as of the filing date. Form D instructions, Item 13 (PDF p. 12) (opens in a new tab)
- The people it names, each with role checkboxes (executive officer, director, promoter) and any title typed in. Form D instructions, Item 3 (PDF p. 9) (opens in a new tab)
What SEC Form D does not prove
- That money came in this week. The amount sold is a running total since the first sale, and the notice is due 15 days after that sale. We write "sold so far". Form D instructions, Item 13 (PDF p. 12) (opens in a new tab) SEC: Filing a Form D notice (opens in a new tab)
- That it was all cash. Sold amounts can include other consideration, such as converted notes. When the filing says so, we quote it and rank the item below the clean ones. Form D instructions, Item 13 (PDF p. 12) (opens in a new tab)
- That the SEC reviewed or approved the offering. A Form D is a notice about securities sold without registration. SEC: Filing a Form D notice (opens in a new tab)
- Whether the company employs a CFO. Titles are optional, so we write "lists no finance title". If this or any earlier Form D of the company names a finance officer, we drop it. Form D instructions, Item 3 (PDF p. 9) (opens in a new tab) Earlier filings
- That the company works at the filed address. It can be a registered agent or a virtual office. We hold known agent addresses as metro unknown and rank mailbox-style addresses last. Agent addresses

- Note
-
SBA publishes no page per loan, so each SBA item names its file and row. To find a loan, search the file for the borrower name, then match ZIP, approval date and amount. A row number counts data rows from the first loan, header not counted, so a spreadsheet shows that loan one row lower. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
LocationID in the file is SBA's lender code, shared by every loan from that lender, so it does not pick out one loan. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- Example
-
NABLI HOSPITALITY LLC, Katy: SBA 7(a) loan of $5,000,000 approved Sep 2, 2026 through GBank (Change of Ownership). (SBA data as of Sep 30, 2026.)
In FOIA_7a_FY2020_Present_asof_260930.csv (opens in a new tab) (188 MB CSV), search for BorrName "NABLI HOSPITALITY LLC", BorrZip 77449, ApprovalDate 2026-09-02, GrossApproval 5000000. It is data row 397,761 (header not counted), spreadsheet row 397,762, text line 397,773.

What SBA loan data proves
- SBA approved a loan of the stated amount on the stated date, to that borrower name and address. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- The bank (for a 504 loan, the CDC) the loan is currently assigned to. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- SBA's business-age category, for example Change of Ownership. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
What SBA loan data does not prove
- That the money was paid out. Status COMMIT (7(a)) and NOT FUNDED (504) mean undisbursed. We write "approved". SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- The loan's status today. For disbursed loans that are still open, SBA withholds it (EXEMPT, FOIA Exemption 4). SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- Who owns the business. The file names the business, not its owners. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- For a 504 loan, the whole project. The amount is the SBA/CDC part; the bank's loan (ThirdPartyDollars) comes on top. SBA: data dictionary (xlsx) (opens in a new tab)
- That the borrower name is the legal name. Some are brand or location names. We print them as published. Example: EXTENDED STAY AMERICA (sampled finding 28)
- That the approval is recent. SBA republishes the whole file each quarter: the 7(a) file holds approvals from fiscal year 2020 on (from Oct 1, 2019), the 504 file from fiscal year 2010 on (from Oct 1, 2009). We use only approvals dated Jul–Sep 2026, the newest quarter in this release. Every SBA item carries its approval date and the file's as-of date. SBA: dataset page (opens in a new tab)

What the Census ZIP file proves
- Which counties a ZIP's area overlaps. A record goes into a metro only when all those counties are in that metro, or, for an SBA loan, when the loan's own project county settles it. Otherwise we hold it. Census: file explanation (PDF) (opens in a new tab)
What the Census ZIP file does not prove
- Every ZIP. Not all valid ZIP codes have a 2020 ZCTA, and only codes valid on January 1, 2020 are in it. A Form D whose ZIP has none is held, not guessed. Census: ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (opens in a new tab)

- Which metro or micro area each county belongs to. Census: delineation files (opens in a new tab)
What the Census metro list does not prove
- Connecticut. Census now uses its 9 planning regions as counties, while the 2020 ZIP file still has the old counties, so the two files do not meet. Connecticut is not covered yet. Census: county changes (opens in a new tab) Census: file explanation (PDF) (opens in a new tab)

- Source
- corp.delaware.gov/agents (opens in a new tab) Each agent's building and ZIP (suite numbers ignored).
- Refresh
- Read on each run. Delaware: registered agents (opens in a new tab)
What the Delaware agent list proves
- That the filed address is in a building a Delaware-listed agent uses (same building and ZIP; we ignore suite numbers). It says nothing about where the company works, so we hold the record as metro unknown. Delaware: registered agents (opens in a new tab)
What the Delaware agent list does not prove
- Agents in other states. For those, we hold any building and suite that 10 or more unrelated companies list in the SEC Form D data sets. Form D data sets
- That the list is complete. Delaware "makes no representations or warrantees regarding the agents on this list". Delaware: registered agents (opens in a new tab)
What we remove
We remove funds, SPVs, real-estate and finance deals, public companies, and companies whose Form Ds name a finance officer. We also remove accounting, tax and payroll firms, and we hold back any record we can't place in one metro. Held records are never guessed into a metro.
Counted by the run behind this page, all US metros.

What we do not use
- Company websites. We have not built a website check. "Lists no finance title" is about the SEC filings only, not about a company's team page. Form D filings
- AI estimates. No model writes or guesses a number. Each number and date is copied from a record field and checked against it. How we check ourselves
How we check ourselves
Every run
- Every Form D is re-read from the saved copy of its SEC XML, and every SBA row from the saved SBA file. The saved bytes must hash to what we downloaded, and every printed field must match.
- Every digit in every sentence must appear in a field of the record it describes.
- The engine's test suite, which replays hand-checked records, must pass in full.
- A live sample is fetched again from sec.gov and data.sba.gov and must match our saved copy byte for byte.
- If any check fails, that week's list is not published.
This list's run (2026-11-07T123113Z) passed on : 267 tests passed and 0 failed, 0 verification failures, 55 of 55 live checks matched.
Before launch: a second, separate check
On , a second set of check scripts, written apart from the pipeline and sharing none of its code, re-derived findings from files freshly downloaded from sec.gov, data.sba.gov and census.gov. We ran it ourselves; it is not an outside audit. It found 0 false findings.
It checked that day's run for Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Denver: Form Ds the SEC posted to , and SBA approvals dated to . Those are not this week's items.

SBA publishes no page per loan, so each SBA row names its file, the LocationID to search for and the row (data row counts from the first loan, header not counted; a spreadsheet shows it one row lower). These rows refer to the files the check downloaded:
- FOIA_7a_FY2020_Present_asof_260930.csv (188 MB), sha256

When SBA replaces those files, row numbers shift; the hashes identify the exact bytes that were checked.
