How to find fractional CFO clients

Fractional CFOs win clients by referral. Every Monday, see the companies in your metro that filed a new Form D or got a $1M+ SBA loan approved, who to ask about each one, and the SEC or SBA record behind it.

Type a 5-digit ZIP, a city or a metro name. Matching metros appear as you type; use the arrow keys to pick one.

How fractional CFOs win clients

Mostly by referral. CentsIQ read 30 days of fractional CFO threads on Reddit and elsewhere, ending Sep 3, 2026. On where clients come from, the top-voted r/CFO answer was:

“You need a referral source — bankers, audit partners, attorneys. People you worked with in the previous iterations of your career.”

u/Rabbit-Lost on r/CFO, quoted by CentsIQ.

CentsIQ adds: “Nobody in the month’s threads reported cold outbound working on its own.”

The catch is timing. You hear about a raise or a loan only when someone thinks to tell you.

Where the Monday list fits

It doesn't replace your referral sources. It gives you a reason to call them every week.

Already pay for Sales Navigator? It shows who works where. This list shows which companies in your metro just filed a Form D or got an SBA loan approved, each with its SEC or SBA record. Compare with Fundz, Crunchbase and Sales Navigator.

Form D: the people on the filing

When a company sells securities privately, it files a Form D with the SEC, due 15 days after the first sale. The filing names its officers and directors with their roles, plus the company phone. We keep companies whose Form Ds list no finance title.

Nov 2–6, 2026: 6 Houston companies filed a new Form D and made the list. None lists a finance title.

Funds, SPVs, partnerships, real-estate and finance deals, and public companies are removed first.

Ask your attorney and audit-partner contacts whether they know anyone named. Each item links to the company's SEC record, so you can see whether this is its first Form D before you call.

SBA loan: the lender is a banker to call

SBA publishes the 7(a) and 504 loans it approves, with the lender's name but no owner or officer names. A lender that approves loans in your metro is a referral source worth knowing.

105 Houston businesses got a $1M+ SBA loan approved in Jul–Sep 2026, through 61 different lenders. 30 were for a change of ownership.

The loan is your reason to introduce yourself to the banker.

Questions

How do fractional CFOs find clients?

Mostly through referrals. CentsIQ read 30 days of fractional CFO threads on Reddit and elsewhere, ending Sep 3, 2026. On where clients come from, the top-voted r/CFO answer named bankers, audit partners and attorneys as referral sources, and nobody in those threads reported cold outbound working on its own. The Monday list gives you a reason to call those people: a company near you filed a Form D, or a lender approved an SBA loan for a business near you.

What does a Form D tell me about a company?

That it is selling securities in a private (exempt) offering and gave the SEC notice, due 15 days after the first sale. It gives the amount sold so far, the offering size, and the officers and directors with their roles. The amount is a running total, not what came in this week. A company may have filed Form Ds before; each item links to its SEC company record, which lists every earlier filing. A Form D does not tell you whether the company has a CFO, because titles are optional. We keep only companies whose Form Ds, this one and any earlier ones, list no finance title.

Why call the SBA lender?

SBA publishes the lender on every loan it approves, but no owner or officer names. The lender knows the borrower, and bankers are one of the referral sources the top r/CFO answer names. Each SBA item on the list is a $1M+ 7(a) or 504 loan with the lender's name as SBA published it.

Did the business get the SBA money?

Not always. We say approved. SBA status COMMIT (7(a)) or NOT FUNDED (504) means not yet disbursed, and the item says so. For a 504 loan the amount is SBA's part; the bank's loan comes on top.

How fresh is each item?

Form D items come from the SEC's daily indexes. Each Monday's list covers the indexes published the week before; this one covers Nov 2–6, 2026 (5 index days). SBA publishes once a quarter, about a month after the quarter ends. The current file covers approvals from Jul 1, 2026 to Sep 30, 2026. It is as of Sep 30, 2026, published Oct 30, 2026, and every SBA item carries that date. The next file is expected around the end of January 2027.

How many companies a week will I get?

It depends on the metro. New Form D filers that made the list Nov 2–6, 2026: Houston 6, Dallas-Fort Worth 2, Austin 4, Denver 1. Over the 4 weeks Oct 13–Nov 6, 2026: Houston 12, Dallas-Fort Worth 4, Austin 13, Denver 8. The SBA quarter adds $1M+ loans approved in Jul–Sep 2026: Houston 105, Dallas-Fort Worth 136, Austin 24, Denver 60. Those stay on each Monday's list until SBA's next quarterly file, so the new names each week are the Form D filers. Type your ZIP at the top of the page to see your metro.

Do I get email addresses?

No. A Form D item has the people the filing names, with their roles, and the company phone as filed. An SBA item has the business name, address and lender. We don't use LinkedIn.

Can my team use one subscription?

Yes. The price is per metro, not per person. Invite your colleagues from the Team page in the app; they see the same lists.

Can I get the list into our CRM?

Yes. Every list downloads as a CSV file with one row per company and these columns: company, type, date filed or approved, street, city, state, ZIP, amount sold so far, offering size, first sale, people and roles, phone as filed, SBA loan amount, lender, SBA business age, industry, a one-line summary, the source link and record, the SBA as-of date and a record ID. HubSpot, Salesforce and most other CRMs import CSV files. A PDF is there too, for reading.

What does it cost?

$249 a month per metro. Founding firms: $129 a month, locked for 12 months (first 10 firms). 14-day free trial, no card. +$99 a month for each extra metro. When the 14-day trial ends, export locks and your lists stay readable.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any month, from Billing in the app. The 14-day trial needs no card. The founding price is held for 12 months while you stay subscribed; it is not a 12-month contract.
